Obituary from Rockford Morning Star, September 5, 1907
As the sun was sinking in the western horizon on Sunday, September 1, another of our aged citizens went to his rest. Major Allen died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Piper of Egan, Ill., where he and his aged wife have been making their home for the past several years. Mr. Allen was one among the quite early settlers of Ogle County, coming to Leaf River Township in the year 1854, settling near the North Grove Christian Church. He was one of the first members to help organize the first Christian church in Ogle County, he being the first member to sign the charter, and was the only one living that had signed that document away back in the year 1858, thus casting a long life and influence for good. The funeral took place Tuesday, September 3, at the North Grove Christian Church, where he helped found and where he loved to go whenever able.
NOTE: It is believed Major Allen is buried in North Grove Christian Cemetery but no gravestone has been found.
