The family moved to Bureau County, Ill., in the spring of 1838 and thence to Ogle County in 1843 and settled on a farm in Pine Creek Township where her husband died in 1845. In 1847, deceased was married to Jonathan Mumma who died July 25, 1878.
For several years Mrs. Mumma conducted a boarding house on the site where Hotel Rohrer now stands.
Being one of the oldest settlers of this part of the country, "Grandma" Mumma, as she was commonly called was well known throughout the community. She was a true Christian woman of a sunny disposition and enjoyed health up until about three months ago, when in crossing the room, she tripped and sustained a fall and from that time until her death was almost helpless.
Funeral services were held in the M.E. church on Monday at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Underwood, pastor of Mt. Zion U.B. church, assisted by Revs. Ford Mason and Elder D.L. Miller. Remains were laid to rest in the old cemetery.Submitted by Jane Edson
