Mary Charlotte (Fogle) Poffenberger (1857-1900)
Mary Charlotte Fogle was born in Washington County, Maryland, January 2, 1857 and died in Lightsville, Illinois, December 3, 1900, aged 43 years, 11 months and one day. When three years of age she came west with her parents to Illinois and located near Adeline and in 1856 the family took up their abode near the North Grove Evangelical Church.
In 1882 she was married to her now mourning husband, Mr. John Poffenberger. Mrs. Poffenberger was converted and united with the U. B. Church about fifteen years ago. She was a kind and affectionate lady and was beloved by all who formed her acquaintance. She expressed to her friends her readiness to die and bore her sickness with christian fortitude.
Dropsy of the heart was the cause of her early departure. "In the midst of life we are in death" was altogether too soon in taking her away from her friends. She leaves to mourn a sorrowing husband, one son, three brothers, and many friends and neighbors. We trust that their loss is her eternal gain.
The funeral was very largely attended by friends from near and abroad. The husband expresses his heartfelt thanks to all the symphatizing friends. C. Nauman of Forreston, officiating.
