Pioneer Mother Summoned
Mary E. Stouffer Passed From Her Sufferings Friday Last
This beloved mother was born in Petersville, Frederick Co., Md., Dec, 14, 1839, where she made her home until she had reached the age of twenty-two years, when she was united in marriage with John H. Stouffer, near Haggerstown, Md. in the year 1861. For a few years the home was continued in Maryland and then the family moved to Ohio and in 1889 came to Ogle County and made the home near Polo, where in 1892 the husband passed from this life.
Of this union were born eleven children, of which number four sons and four daughters survive as follows Mrs. Mollie Hawkins, Elmhurst, Ill., Wm. H. Stauffer, Dixon, Sarah R. Swope, Oregon, Anna A. Toms, Polo, Chas. E. Stauffer, Moline, Alice A. Jones, Dixon, Geo. A. Stouffer, Dimmick, Ill.; John D. Stouffer, Irene, Ill; all of whom were with their mother during the last days of her illness ang [sic] gave her every care.
Funeral service was conducted at 12 oclock Sunday from the Dunkard church in Pine Creek. The services were conducted by Elder John Heckman. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church property, in the family lot, where are buried the remains of the husband and one daughter.******************************
