Page 1Miss Mary Watts Answers Summons
Death removed the second of the widely known and highly respected Watts twin sisters Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock, when Miss Mary Ann was summoned at her home on Lincoln Street exactly 30 days, almost to the hour, after the passing of Miss Martha. Thus the sisters, who had spent more than 75 years together, seldom leaving each other's sight, were reunited in death after only a comparatively brief separation. Although Miss Mary apparently took the death of her sister quite calmly and bravely, those closest to her were conscious of the great grief she suffered and this grief is thought to have contributed in no small measure to her demise, despite the fact that she had been unwell for the past several years with the infirmities of age. Miss Watts at an early age united with the Lutheran Church of this city and through the years which followed was ever an active, faithful and loyal member. Of hardy pioneer stock, she possessed a kindly, helpful personality which was manifest constant in quiet, unobtrusive ways. Mary Ann, the daughter of William and Anna Watts, was born on the Watts homestead southwest of Mount Morris on December 11, 1858, and at passing had reached the age of 75 years, 5 months and 9 days. About 20 years ago she moved with her sister from the place of her birth to the family home where she died. One of a family of 11 children, all but two have preceded her in death. The two remaining are brothers Oliver S. and Fred I. both of Mount Morris. Funeral services were conducted in charge of her pastor, Rev. C. H. Hightower with interment at Plainview Cemetery.
