Kennedy nee York
Mrs. Nellie Kennedy, daughter of William B. and Belle S. York died at Avondale, Ill., Jan. 22, 1887. Was born at Marengo, Ill., April 12, 1869.
Deceased will be remembered by many, as one of Byron's school girls, where she won many friends among her playmates.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Rockford and acted in every day life the principles she professed.
Her last words to her husband were: "Charley be faithful to the end."
Again these parents have been called to lay another dear one away her brother preceding her, by only two weeks.
They were very strongly attached to each other sharing their joys and sorrows, as but few brothers and sisters do.
Her married life had been very short having been married only a few days over one year.
Her husband has the sympathy of the entire community in this sad bereavement. She leaves a little boy about two weeks old.
Services were held in the Congregational Church, Tuesday at half past 12 o'clock, Rev. Harris officiating. By request the choir sang the same songs they sang at Clayton's funeral. First, a chant "There is a Reaper;" second "How Vain is All Beneath the Skies:" third "Come Unto Me."
The church was well filled with people, met to pay their respects to the deceased and to her friends.Byron Express, Jan. 28, 1887, p. 1
