DEATH OF OTHO J. PORTS

On Monday, November 4, 1912, at his home southeast of Polo, occurred the death of Otho J. Ports after an illness of eight weeks, due to a nervous breakdown.

Mr. Ports was born in Keedysville, Md., Feb. 9, 1839, and died at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 25 days. He was married in Keedysville to Mary Ann Mades August 2, 1860, and in 1865 the family moved to Illinois, settling in Pine Creek Township, Ogle County, where they remained until the fall of 1869, when they moved to the farm where he resided until the time of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Ports were the parents of twelve children. Two sons, Samuel and Charles, preceded their father of the silent river. There survive to mourn for a good and upright father, Mrs. Henry Schryver of Dixon, Mrs. Archie Grant of Hazelhurst, Mrs. Fred Hutchinson of near Polo, John, Bert, Frank and James, all of this vicinity, Will of LaCrosse, Wis., Jesse of near Lanark, and Emory, who resides at home, He also leaves his wife, three brothers and one sister, Jacob Ports of California, Scott Ports of Oklahoma, John Ports of South Elkhorn, and Mrs. Mary Smith of Polo.

Mr. Ports was more than ordinarily successful in his chosen occupation of a farmer and stock breeder and took great pride in working for the best things along all lines. His long residence in the community in which he lived and his upright methods in business, made him widely known as a man of integrity and worth and a farmer of ability. he had many friends, who will regret that he has been called from earthly activities.

Funeral services are Wednesday afternoon at the home at 1 o'clock, Rev. Barton officiating. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the Brick church.
