Mr. Kretsinger living on a farm north of Lake Benton, passed away Tuesday night last week at the age of 81 years. He was the father of Clark Kretsinger, and Mrs. Wm. Motter, and grandfather of Mrs. Gust Kurtz and Mrs. Clarence Miller, and he had ten great grandchildren living in Richland. Funeral services we held Friday in Lake Benton. Miss Minnie Kretsinger was ill with the flu and unable to attend the funeral. Mrs. Carrie Schreiver of Leaf River, Ill., a daughter, arrived Thursday for the funeral.

Samuel C. Kretsinger, son of Lewis and Caroline Kretzinger, was born in Ogle Co., Ill., Sept 14, 1847 where he continued to live until 1902, when he with his family removed to Lake Benton, Minn., at which place he passed to his eternal home on Jan. 8, 1929, aged 84 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He enlisted in the service of his country when but seventeen years of age in Company H., Illinois Infantry, in 1864 and served faithfully until the close of the war, and received his honorable discharge. He was in many of the important battles and with Sherman in his march to the sea. Shortly after his return to his home, he married Miss Phoebe Alden, who with one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Stamp, preceded him in death about four years ago. To these parents ten children were born, six sons and four daughters. Nine of them survive him. They are E. U., Clark, Lloyd, Mrs. Nellie Motter, all of Elkton, S. Dak.; Mrs. Carrie Schreiber of Leaf River, Ill., Mrs. Annie Schreiver of German Valley, Ill., Mrs. Eva Knodle of Clifford, S. Dak., Lincoln and Miss Minnie, both of Lake Benton, Minn.

Mr. Kretzinger was converted in early life and was an earnest Christian worker in the cause of Christ, a powerful man of prayer, and an earnest exhorter to Christians to be faithful, and to sinners to seek their soul’s salvation. He was a member of the old United Brethren Church and refused to transfer his name elsewhere until transferred to the Church Triumphant, the home that he had so long seen by faith. He is survived by the children as named above besides eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister: Frank, Milton, Mrs. Jennie Knapp of Egan, Ill., and David of Leaf River, Ill., many other relatives and hosts of friends. His funeral was largely attended, which showed the esteem in which he was held, conducted by a Baptist minister. Obituary written by a former pastor, Rev. J. L. Buckwalter.
