Samuel K. Linn is one of the substantial farmers of the township of Byron, and is located on section 24, range 10. He was born in Perry Co, Pa., March 26, 1839, and is the son of William and Margaret [Wray] Linn. His father was born in Perry County in the State of Pennsylvania. The former was a farmer [sic?]by trade, and later, on account of failing health, became a farmer in his native county. He operated as an agriculturist in that county until 1854, when he removed with his family to Illinois. He located in Byron Township, buying land on section 13 which was wholly without improvements. He built a log house, to which he removed and entered with energy on the work of placing his property in a profitable condition. He died there five years later, in 1859. He was born in July, 1804. His widow resides in Winnebago Co., Ill. David W. Linn, their eldest son, is represented by a sketch on another page; Mr. Linn of this account is the next in order of birth; Ellen is the wife of Jeremiah Jordan, of Winnebago County; Nancy M. is married to George McEwen, of Boone Co., Ill.
Mr. Linn was 15 years of age when he accompanied his parents to Illinois. At the death of his father, which occurred when he was 20, associated with his brother he assumed charge of the estate and continued its managements jointly for some years. They made a success of their agricultural schemes and added to the place until it included 400 acres of valuable land, all of which was improved. It is still their property, each owning 200 acres, and it is devoted to the purposes of mixed husbandry.
Jan. 15, 1867, Mr. Linn was married to Miss Carrie Hunter. She is the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Hunter and was born in Miami Co., Ohio. Estelle, Charlie E. and Ethel are the names of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Linn. The parents are members of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. L. is a Republican.
