Samuel E. Steffa, a former resident of Byron, died very suddenly at the Emerson-Brantingham plant in Rockford Saturday noon while he was eating his lunch. The death was due to apoplexy.
Mr. Steffa was born in Rockvale Township on October 26, 1856. He married Sarah Miller in 1881 and made their home in Byron until her death in 1918, when he went to Rockford and lived with a daughter, Mrs. Chas. P. Lizer. He is survived by three children, Floyd L. and Mrs. Lizer of Rockford, and Mrs. R. H. Bachelder of Aurora, and two step-children, Russell G. Steffa of Kings, and Mrs. Wm. Ridgeway of Leaf River, also by four brothers, Jesse I. of Byron, William and Luke of Rockvale, and Fred of Rockford, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Byron Congregational Church on Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. C. C. Crickette. The burial was in the Silver Creek Cemetery, south of Leaf River on Monday afternoon. The arrangements were considerably interfered with by the storm.Return to Ogle Co. Genealogy Site
