SIMON HENRY KLOCK

"Simon Henry Klock was born January 1, 1852, at Odersum (sic), Ostfriesland, Germany. His father having died when he was a young boy, his mother migrated to the state of Illinois in the year 1856, with her four children, Henry, Simon, Kate and Etta. While here his mother was married to Ralph Brinkman, to which union, one daughter, Grace, was born.

Simon entered into the bonds of matrimony with Miss Margaret Abels on April 4, 1876. This union was blessed with seven children, one daughter, Helen, having died Oct. 18, 1911, leaving her husband, Benj. J. Alberts and three daughters. Six sons, five of whom suvive their father, are: Henry, who resides at Avan (sic), South Dakota, Herman of Castlewood, South Dakota, Ralph of Burke, Wisconsin, Jacob with whom Mr. Klock made his home at the time of his death, near Forreston, and John of Lanark. The youngest son, [J.] Frederick, died Oct. 26, 1900, at the age of six years 3 months and 14 days.

The family resided on a farm about four miles west of Forreston until 1913, when they moved to the village of Forreston. On August 24, 1918, his wife passed to her reward. In 1924, Mr. Klock sold his property in Forreston and since that time has made his home with his sons, mostly with his son Jacob and family. He passed away at 1:30 Thursday morning, Nov. 9, 1933.

The funeral was held from the home of his son, Jacob, and family who reside on the old home place, Saturday, Nov. 11, 1933, and from the Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church. Dr. S. G. Manus officiated and spoke in both German and English. Interment was made in the church cemetery."
