Mrs. William Davis Called Home On Thursday—Funeral Sunday

Unable to withstand the ravages of influenza which later developed into pneumonia, Mrs. Wm. Davis, long time and highly respected citizen of Mount Morris, was called by death early Thursday morning of last week.

Everything possible to sustain life was done for her by her family and the best of medical aid was administered but to no avail, her advanced age and a weak heart precluding all possibly of recovery.

A kind and loving mother, possessed of a gentle nature, she was a lady numbering hundreds of friends both in Mount Morris and Polo where she spent practically her entire life. Her death will leave a great vacancy in her family and in the community.

Susan Coffman Davis was born at Pine Creek, Illinois, December 8, 1847 and departed this life April 1, 1926, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 23 days.

She was the second child of nine born to Edmond and Catherine Coffman. Of her father’s family, only two sisters remain; Mrs. Laura Gelwix of Thayer, Kans. and Mrs. Urilla Kline, Manson, Iowa.

Her girlhood was spent on the farm until the time of her marriage to Wm. D. Davis, Dec. 1, 1870. To this union six children were born; two daughters and four sons. It is remarkable, that in more than fifty-five years of married life there has never been a death in this family or of the grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Vernie L. Shaw, Edmond C. Davis M. Frank Davis, Myron W. Davis, Mrs. Bessie O. Pittenger and C. Clyde Davis, all living in or near Mt. Morris.

She was united with the United Brethren Church in early girlhood. After her marriage her husband united with the same church. You need not be told they lived consistent lives from that day to this. When they came to Mount Morris for residence, both united with the Christian Church to continue their faithful service to the end.

Her life has been spent in and around Mount Morris and none knew her but to praise. A quiet, unassuming, motherly woman will be long remembered for her consistent Christian life and good deeds. Her loved ones will never live long enough to forget her consistent godly life.

The funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by Rev. Milo Nethercutt of the Christian Church. Interment Polo Cemetery.
