Mrs. Wm. H. Myers

Mrs. Wm. H. Myers, aged eighty-two years, passed from life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Wilson in Oregon at an early hour last Friday morning, February 1, 1923.

Susan Gibbs was born near Emmetsburg, Frederick County, Maryland, August 12, 1840 and came to Illinois in a covered wagon with her parents in 1856, settling in Mt. Morris. Five weeks time was taken in making the trip.

In 1860 she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Myers of Mt. Morris, another ex-Maryland citizen and at that time a stone mason in Mt. Morris. To this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters, all of whom survive. Frank of Dubuque, Ia., W. S. of Ottawa; Fred, Clyde, Edward, Miss Lillie and Mrs. Nellie B. Wilson of Oregon.

Mr. And Mrs. Myers moved from Mt. Morris to the county seat in 1892 where the former continued to carry on his work for several years, assisted by his sons. Mr. Myers lived to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary in 1920 but passed to his rest soon after that.

Mrs. Myers was a lady of charming personality and possessed home-loving and
motherly characteristics that endeared her to her family and a large circle of friends. Being an enthusiastic reader and book-lover, she was a fluent conversationalist and well versed on topics of interest. It was a source of gratification to her children that her mental faculties were keen and alert until the end, despite her advancing years. Early in life she accepted the Christian faith and its influence was a noticeable factor in her life.

Funeral services were held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Wilson, with whom she resided, on Sunday afternoon and also from the Church of God., Rev. F.L. Austin officiated. Internment was in the Riverview Cemetery.

The family wish to express their appreciation of the many acts of kindness tendered them during the hour of their breavement and to thank all who sent flowers.

Susan was the daughter of William J. Gibbs and Sarah Cramer (Creamer/Kramer)
