William A. Hoyt died in Byron Ill. April 24th 1885, aged 73 years, 1 month and 14 days. Deceased was born in Woodberry Conn., came to Illinois and settled in Byron, Ogle Co. in 1856.

Father Hoyt was a good citizen, a kind husband, and industrious man and a worthy christian; he was always found on the side of temperance, doing all he could to advance the cause; he was very anxious to vote a no-license ticket a few days before he died, but was not able to leave the house. He was conscious that his days were being numbered, and said to his pastor as he looked forward to the time of his departure, "I wish not to live, I am ready to go." His trust was in God, he was patiently waiting the Lord's time, when he should depart and be with Christ. For some hours before his death he suffered great pain and was at time unconscious, but when death came he calmly and peacefully passed away.

An affectionate wife, a dutiful son, a loving daughter, are left to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church. Rev. J. Hartman taking for his text II Cor. 5;1. His remains were laid away in the beautiful cemetery.

"Why should our tears in sorrow flow,
When God recalls his own,
And bids them leave a world of woe,
For an immortal crown?"
